Mr. Laolu Hang
Treasurer

Mr. Hang became board chair effective June 28, 2006. He has a MBA from Saginaw Valley State University, Michigan. He is an Assistant Vice President with Western Bank in St. Paul, MN. His responsibilities include overseeing the bank's community relations and customer satisfaction functions. He has held leadership roles with Hmong Chamber of Commerce and the Frogtown Community Development Corporation.

Peter H. Berge
Advisory Board Member

Mr. Berge serves as a board member for Hmong Academy. Mr. Berge is an attorney with the law firm of Pritzker | Ruohonen & Associates in Minneapolis. He is co-author of The Practitioner's Guide to the Minnesota No-Fault Act, and has published numerous law review and bar journal articles. He is a frequent lecturer for CLE programs and serves on the Fourth District Ethics Committee and the MSBA Membership, Publications, and Technology committees. Prior to joining Pritzker | Ruohonen, Mr. Berge was the Vice President of Risk Management for Minnesota Lawyers Mutual Insurance Company (Prolegia). Mr. Berge clerked for the Hon. Lawrence R. Yetka of the Minnesota Court of Appeals and taught at William Mitchell College of Law, Temple University School of Law and Georgetown University Law Center.

Eric Mahmoud
Advisory Board Member

Mr. Mahmoud is the founder and CEO/President of Harvest Preparatory School/Seed Academy, a successful African-American charter school. Mr. Mahmoud has over twenty years experience in school administration in both private and charter school management, and presently serves on various non-profit organization boards. He was appointed by Governor Pawlenty to serve on the Governor's Education Advisory Board.

Gary Miller
Advisory Board Member

Dr. Miller is an independent consultant at Change Inc. working primarily in inner-city community development and research. His consulting projects have included community building and development, urban education, culturally specific juvenile offender programs, strategic planning and evaluation for foundations, organizational assistance and program and resource development. Prior to his work as a consultant, he held leadership positions at The Minneapolis Foundation, The Saint Paul Foundation, the United Way of Minneapolis Area, The City, Inc., and the State of Minnesota Legislative Audit Commission.

Dr. Joyce Lewis-Lake

Dr. Lewis-Lake was a board member of Hmong Academy. She formerly served as a middle/high school principal for the Minneapolis Public District and Assistant Superintendent of the Beloit, Wisconsin School District. She held a K-12 administrative license and had 29-years of teaching experience. Dr. Lewis-Lake worked extensively with Christianna Hang on pre-operational development and curriculum for Hmong Academy.
