English Department at Hmong Academy

The English Department at Hmong College Prep Academy strives to bring innovation into the classroom in order to meet and exceed the needs of our students. Each student at our school comes with their own learning styles and capabilities. Our English teachers work diligently with each student to help them achieve their goals of English language. Working hand-in-hand with the departments within our school, specific English Language Standards are taught and reemphasized through the use of monthly and weekly language objectives. Students are taught these concepts to mastery and are assessed often to ensure that the concepts are understood and are reflected within each of their classrooms. Mrs. Duvnjak is currently serving as the Board Secretary. She is also the Assistant Director of Operations at Hmong College Prep Academy, Instruction and Assessment Coach, District Assessment and Summer School Coordinator. She has a Bachelor degree in Language Arts from Hamline University and is pursuing a Master's Degree in Curriculum Instruction and K-12 Leadership. She has over seven years of teaching experience, which includes high schools, pre-schools and working as a behavior liaison specialist in the St. Paul Public School junior high and high schools, as well as Minnetonka District. Mrs. Duvnjak also is an active member in the community and currently serve as board member various in non-profit organizations. Grant Tharaldson gtharalson@hmongacademy.org 2010-2011 Courses English 12 Grade
With a strong background in the sciences, Mr. Tharaldson brings a unique perspective to teaching and understanding English to his classroom. Mr. Tharaldson provides his students a scientific approach to literature such that they learn the aesthetics as well as English "equation" to the authors read and evaluated in class.
