Science Department at Hmong Academy

K-12 college prep charter school located in St. Paul, MN

The Science Department at Hmong College Prep Academy offers a full-array of science courses that will give each student a solid foundation and background in the very extensive field known as science. Offering both mainstream and honors courses, the Science Department strives to bring real-world application to each of its many courses. The science teachers work rigorously with each student to ensure mastery of the Science Standards.

As students progress along the sequence of science courses, their understanding and knowledge of the biological, chemical, and physical world around them will grow expotentially.

Donna Stotesbery holds two degrees from Bemidji State University. Her Bachelor of Science degree is in Biology and Chemisty and Master of Arts degree is in Biology. She is currently licensed to teach 5-12 Science.

Besides teaching Chemistry at Hmong College Prep Academy, Ms. Stotesbery is also a certified SCUBA Instructor, with over 20 years of SCUBA experience!

Honors Fundamentals of Science

Ryan Lester comes to the Hmong College Prep Academy from University of Minnesota, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology, and with a Science Education Teaching License.

Mr. Lester's hobbies are: softball, fishing, hiking, cooking, and basketball to name a few. He would love to see a Cultural Exploration Club at Hmong College Prep Academy.

Christine Payne-Makris graduated from the University of Calgary in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science in Ecology and a Master’s of Science in Zoology from the University of Western Ontario in 2001.

Ms. Payne enjoys runnning and cooking in her free time. This past fall, Ms. Payne ran and completed the St. Paul Marathon.
