Social Studies Department at Hmong Academy

K-12 college prep charter school located in St. Paul, MN

The Social Studies Department at Hmong College Prep Academy focuses on bringing current events and real-world application to all of the courses offered. With so many courses underneath the Social Studies Department, the faculty is very diverse in expertise, allowing for team-teaching and constant collaboration. This gives each student an exciting and new approach to Social Studies regardless of the course or instructor. Working hand-in-hand with the departments within our school, specific Social Studies Standards are taught and reemphasized through the use of common course objectives. Students are taught these concepts to mastery and are assessed often to ensure that the concepts are understood and are reflected within each of their classrooms.

Brent Ness graduated from the University of Minnesota, Duluth, with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, International Studies, and Secondary Education. Before coming to Hmong College Prep Academy Mr. Ness studied at the Fuden University in Shanghai, China, and has taught in Capetown, South Africa. Besides his teaching responsibilities he enjoys volleyball, golf, and traveling.

Jenee Nordstrom graduated from University of Minnesota, Twin Cities with a Bachelor of Arts in US History and a minor in English. She currently is working towards completing her Masters in Teaching at Hamline University. She has a 5-12 Social Studies license and in her free time enjoys reading, walking and playing cards. Ms. Nordstrom would love to see a Book Club here at Hmong College Prep Academy.

Abram Hedtke is a graduate of the St. Thomas University, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences and 5-12 Social Studies Teaching License in Secondary Education. Mr. Hedtke is very energetic and is looking forward to being part of many clubs and activities here at Hmong College Prep Academy. His interests lie with Computers, Video Games, Camping, Kayaking, and of course...Star Wars!
