A deeper understanding of 6th grade concepts – decimals and fractions – and are introduced in the first semester as well as exponents and inequalities. Successful 7th grade, second semester students will understand geometric concepts such as volume, area, perimeter, shapes, Pythagorean theorem, and three-dimensional figures as well as algebraic concepts such as patterns and rules, graphing and analyzing data. Students will finish the year by learning about probability.

Focusing on pre-algebra concepts such as algebraic variables, spatial thinking, graphing and data analysis, 8th grade students will better understand how to manipulate and evaluate numbers. This class will prepare 8th grade students for high school algebra by focusing more on the algebra skills learned in 6th and 7th grades.

This is a first-year course that stresses the study of beginning statistics, the structure of algebra, and the introduction of problem-solving skills. The structure and properties of the real number systems are reviewed and deepened. The course includes data exploration, linear equations, fitting a line to data, systems of equations and inequalities, exponents and exponential models, function transformations, and quadratic models. This class prepares students for the Minnesota basic standards test.

This course is a study of geometric concepts and of using them to follow logical arguments. The course combines plane, coordinate, and solid geometry together. The course helps students to understand the basic structure of geometry, visualize plane and solid figures, understand deductive and inductive methods, and gain some knowledge of the way in which algebra and geometry complement each other. The course also includes a study of probability. It should help students better understand the nature of a mathematical system and appreciate the need for clarity and precision of language. Topics that will be covered include: parallel lines, congruent triangles, inequalities in triangles, quadrilaterals, similar polygons, right triangles, circles, constructions, and area.

This course covers the study of polynomials, multiplying and dividing rational expressions, functions and graphs, function transformations, logarithmic functions, exponential functions, sequences and series, square roots and quadratic equations. In addition, this course emphasizes trigonometric and circular functions, their inverses, graphs, and applications. A strong background in trigonometry is essential for further study in mathematics.
