Geography is the study of how human beings interact with the earth and with each other.
Geography examines land and water in all of their forms and actions on the earth’s surface. Geography studies geology and climate. Geography considers the effect of volcanoes, earthquakes, fires and weather on the earth’s surface and on the human and animal populations that live there. Geography considers how human beings use and change the earth.
Geographic knowledge is necessary to understand our world and the people who live on this planet with us. To live on this planet and to survive in the future we need to understand our world. To solve problems such as environmental changes, hunger, poverty, war and the depletion or destruction of natural resources we need to understand the natural world and human behavior.
In this course we will study lands, countries, peoples, and the many technologies that are used to gather and to understand geographic information. In this course students will work to achieve all of the Minnesota State Education Standards for High School Geography.
